Reviews of The Top Inflatable Hot Tubs in 2018

    1

    1) Bestway Lay-Z-Spa Miami

    Brand: Lay Z Spa

    Model: 54123-BNNX16AB02

    Capacity: 2-4 person

    Our Rating: 5/5

For outdoor Jacuzzi debutants, the Lay Z Spa Miami is an ideal tub. Easy to install and even easier to set up, this offers buyers many of the features of more expensive models.

    Overview & Quick Peak

The Lay Z spa Miami is the best-selling UK jacuzzi and it's not difficult to see why. Very easy set up, and kitted out with all the features that you could require, it's the perfect choice. Comfortably seat four adults, and offering a selection of massage settings, it gets a big thumbs up, and we think you’ll agree it’s one of the best buys out there.

    The Good

The Lay Z Spa Miami on average it takes less than 15 minutes to unpack, inflate and fill. Boasting an express timer controlled heating system, its built in portable Jacuzzi heater will take it up to 40 degrees.

The Miami comes packed with top features such as an advanced AirJet massage system and a soft touch digital control panel. At a price that is most definitely right, this economy option out-performs many of its more expensive rivals.

    Downsides

Trying to give a downside to this superb model is really scraping the bottom of the tub! The Miami spa is of the small, family sized range, and seats no more than 4 adults, so would be unsuitable for larger groups.

But, that's really being a little unfair to what is, after all, one of the best small blow ups on the UK market. A popular choice for people looking for a 2 person portable.

    2

    2) Bestway Lay-Z-Spa Monaco

    Brand: Lay Z Spa

    Model: BW54113

    Capacity: 6-8 person

    Our Rating: 4.5/5

The Lay-Z-Spa Monaco hot tub heads up an innovative new and emerging product in the low priced market. This fresh hot selling 2018 spa comes with ultra-strong and compact walls that allow for a far greater water capacity.

    Overview & Quick Peak

When all is said and done, this will be the ideal tub for larger groups, young socialites and sports groups. Its advanced heating, digital control panel and massage systems make for an extra healing spa session for anywhere up to 8 adults. For maximum comfort we recommend 4-6 people. Compared with other similar models, the 8-person spa offers excellent value and ranks high as a top deep portable for sale in 2018.

    The Good

With 86 powerful AirJets, an advanced massage system and higher, rigid, reinforced walls, this ground-breaking Lazy Spa offering offers all the advantages of a fitted hot tub but at a fraction of the price. Boasting a water capacity of an impressive 1540 litres, this 8-person inexpensive tub is leading the market when it comes to design and price.

Benefiting from the very latest integrated technology, the Monaco outdoor garden spa is fitted out with a pump that not only controls the water flow but the express heating system and the filtration system too. Now, that's impressive!

    Downsides

It is one of the best viewed 8 person hot tubs in 2018, and potential customers will be in for quite a surprise when they find out just how much they've got for so little money! Is that a downside? Well, of course not, but for couples and small families there are small inflatable spas and hot tubs that do the job.

    3

    3) Bestway Lay-Z-Spa Vegas

    Brand: Lay Z Spa

    Model: 54112-BNNX16AB02

    Capacity: 4-6 person

    Our Rating: 4.5/5

A perennial best seller, the Vegas Lay Z Spa hot tub offers fantastic value for money and is one of the leading mid-sized all-weather spas this year. Seating up to 4-6 people, it is the perfect choice for smaller families or more intimate social gatherings.

    Overview & Quick Peak

This 6-person outdoor spa Jacuzzi is similar to the Spa Paris and is also great value for what you pay. The perfect tub for a mid-sized family or those with therapeutic needs, the Vegas has received many accolades and is consistently in the top 3 of UK Lazy Spa best reviews. With portability, space and price as attributes, there is little more you could want or require from a large portable 6-person spa. This model has been a winner of the top portable style for the last few year as it has always been unbeatable on value for money. The spa Vegas can be used on patios but it is advised to try and use a spa floor protector as well to prevent any damage.

    The Good

Equipped with 87 powerful all-massaging directional air jets, it provides an intensive massage system that can reach even the deepest aches and pains.

The Vegas AirJet massaging spa comes with added safety features. The combo of a blow up under lid and a cover with extra secure, child-proof safety clips, ensures that the spa is extra safe for children and pets.

    Downsides

A few people have found that this model is not as long-lasting as the original Laz-Z-Spa but for most who want a one for occasional use it is fantastic value for money and has all the benefits of its more expensive competitors. This is more than enough if your looking for a 2 person model, it will fit more easily but for 2 people this is a great starter.

    4

    Downsides

Although optional the neon LED lighting which make the whole thing glow may not make for everyone's idea of peace and relaxation and is more suited to parties. Although, if you're buying a tub named Saint Tropez then maybe relaxation and quiet tranquillity is not top of the agenda!

    5

More space, easy to inflate and those all-important revitalising massage jets.

    7

    Downsides

    Who Wins?

    Lay Z Spa Vs Intex

We take a look at what makes these two companies the hot tub leaders and show you the differences between models, prices and quality.

    What's Better?

    Airjet Vs Hydrojet

We take a look at what the key differences between an airjet and hydrojet are and how each are unique and should be considered before buying.

Setting up and installing your hot tub

    The location

Although all of the above are portable, location is still the most important factor when setting them up. The area will need to be flat and able to support the weight of perhaps a 1000+ litres of water so it’s no good placing it on some dodgy decking that has seen better days.

The place you choose must also be free of any debris that could damage the exterior of the tub such as rocks, gravel, sharp twigs and stones. While they are made from tough material it isn’t completely indestructible and leaks can occur if punctured.

    What Goes Under

What can i put under my inflatable hot tub is one of the most commonly asked questions and with good reason, unless your in the hot tub industry you won’t automatically know the answer.

Well the answer is you don’t necessarily need anything to go under an inflatable spa, what we mean is it’s not a must to have any protection under. In 2018 these spas and hot tubs are built to be able to put straight onto a patio area or decking if you prefer.

If your the cautious type and really would like to protect the hot tub, then you could use a floor mat or floor protector as they are usually referred to.

    Hot Tub Floor Protectors

These protective floor mats can retail anywhere from around £20 - £50, as stated earlier there  not 100% needed but are quite a sensible buy, I mean these hot tubs aren't cheap and if a puncture can be avoided it makes sense to do so.

Lay Z Spa do a pretty good floor protector which is a little more expensive than some, but it seems to have been designed by them and is recommended for all Lay Z Spas. We don’t see any reason why it couldn't be used for other brands like Mspa or Intex if that's what your going to buy. We're sure they won't mind!

    Inflation

A simple job, just plug in the pump, attach the inflation hose to both the pump and the tub and off you go. Most models need to be pumped up in sections and if parts are numbered it is vital you check the instruction manual to see in which order they should be inflated.

This process is simple and usually only takes a few minutes to complete. The Lay-Z-Spa tubs, for example can be inflated in around 10 minutes meaning you can be up and running enjoying the benefits in no time at all.

    Attach the filter

The filter is an important feature of your new machine as it keeps the water clean and prevents the build-up of bacteria. Insert the provided filter into the casing and attach it to the outlet which can usually be found near the bottom on the inside of the tub.

The filter should be cleaned after each use and changed regularly otherwise they will become clogged and unable to function properly. It is also advisable to change the water regularly so that bacteria doesn’t build up.

For more on the hot tub filters its here.

    Filling the Jacuzzi

Now it’s time to fill your spa with the garden hose, depending on the water pressure most tubs take a couple of hours to fill and have a line on the inside to let you know the right level.

Never leave children unsupervised while your machine is filling and always make sure the thermostat and breaker switch are turned off and disconnected. While monitoring the process you can check for leaks if you suspect a leak turn the water supply off at once as continuing filling will just cause further damage.

    Heating the water

Once filled you can turn on the thermostat which will begin to heat the water, depending on which model you have this can take anything from 6-12 hours obviously the weather plays an important role and if it is cold outside it will take longer to reach the desired temperature which will normally be between 38°-40° although some models do go to a degree or two hotter.

(Note; pregnant, women, the elderly and children can not tolerate the water as hot as others)

    Adding chemicals

The final step is to add the chemicals; these keep the water sanitised and maintain a balanced PH level which should be between 7.6 and 8.2. Always follow the instructions carefully to ensure you are adding the correct amounts.

Some more technologically advanced machines have hard water softening, and sanitising systems making set-up even easier and hassle free.

Everything to do with hot tub chemicals and starter kits is here

    Accessories

With any popular product there is inevitably a plethora of add-ons and extras that can be purchased and the same is true with these.

While some hot tub accessories are vital for the upkeep and maintenance of the Jacuzzi such as filters, PH test strips, covers, chemicals and outdoor spa gazebos

    Others are purely to make the experience more pleasurable and can include;

    • Spa steps
    • Robes
    • Fragrances
    • check
      Spa pillows and cushions
    • check
Water Resistant covers for phones and tablets
    • check
      Toys
    • Hydrotherapy exercise equipment
    • Inflatable bar for food and drink cups
    • Cup and glass holders
    • check
      Waterproof Glow LED lighting
    • check
      Hot Tub Spa Gazebos
    • check
      Entertainment systems

The choice is seemingly endless, and one thing is guaranteed as the popularity of blow up's increases so will the accessories.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How to clean an inflatable spas?

An blow up spa is much easier to clean than a standard one as you can empty it after 1 or 2 uses. Once drained you can clean an inflatable spa by gently rubbing the insides with a damp sponge using mild detergent. Afterwards rinse thoroughly using a hose making sure that no residue or bubbles remain.

Which is the best blow up?

There are several companies selling a huge range of models, so it can be difficult to choose the right one, ask yourself how often you will be using the Jacuzzi, how many people should it seat, where is it going to go? Check out the online reviews and do your research as although a cheap inflatable hot tub sounds great you will still want the best quality you can afford.

    How much to run?

This depends on several factors including, size, how often you use it and brand, many options now come with power saving thermostats the same as your home central heating meaning they switch off when the water reaches the desired temperature. Estimates say it costs between £7-£10 per week using it 3 times a week for around 25 minutes. You can save money by placing your Jacuzzi in a sheltered position, insulating the bottom of the spa and using the cover.

What can I put under my portable tub?

Where you put your tub is important, it needs to be level, firm and offer sufficient drainage, patios are great, but it is advisable to also use a spa pad or protective mat underneath not only will this help insulate but also protect from damage which can be caused by stones and debris piercing the outer plastic.

What chemicals do I need for my inflatable spa?

Chemicals are an essential part of spa maintenance to keep the water clean, hygienic and within the right PH levels, but don’t worry it sounds more complex than it is all you really need are testing strips; these will inform you of the Alkalinity, PH levels and how much chlorine is present. You are looking for

    • PH Level 7.2 - 7.6

    Spa Safety

Everyone knows that water and electricity are a dangerous combination, so it is crucial to ensure you use yours safely.

All these Jacuzzi's can be used on a UK standard 240v/ 13 AMP electrical supply. The machine can be plugged into any electrical socket, although it is advisable to use a socket with an RCD (Residual Current Device).

This ensures that should any water come into contact with the electrics it immediately cuts out preventing electric shocks. If you use an outdoor socket for your spa it needs to be fully waterproof.

Is it safe for children? The simple answer is yes although they are not recommended for babies. Children can overheat a lot quicker than adults which can be dangerous.

If you want to enjoy the benefits of your spa with the kids, turn the thermostat down a few degrees, use a booster seat so they are only immersed from waist height if possible and limit the sessions to around 15 minutes.

Children also have more sensitive skin more than adults so the chemicals can cause a rash for some youngsters. If your child suffers from allergies or skin conditions check with your doctor first.

    Our 2018 Winner

Tough and without trying to dodge the decision (which we won't!) Here's why

We looked through over 2000 reviews for these 11 hot tubs and not one of them received less than 3.5 stars out of five.

We tried out the Palm Springs and the Purespa. No complaints at all.

The reason we choose this winner is:

Nearly 300 reviews averaging 4.5 out 5, (other tubs have the same rating but from not nearly as many reviewers)

Its not white (white shows up the dirt)

Its a four seater (2 seaters are popular but for us feel squashed)

And somehow its the cheapest of all 11 we reviewed (crazy considering the feedback)

So for us the best inflatable hot tub to buy in 2018 is the Lay Z Spa Miami - Get the lowest price here
